The topic of this essay is intelligence since September 11, but it can also serve as a platform from which to examine the great international issues of the day, namely, the status of the war against terrorism and the evolution of the situation in Iraq. Finally, the evaluation of US intelligence needs to be considered in the context of broader issues relating to the role of government in the information age and how to balance the demands for openness and for secrecy in democratic societies.
