نبذة عن كتاب OMANI – FRENCH RELATIONS 1715 – 1900
This study seeks to throw new light on the struggle for influence in Oman between France and Britain in the formative period of the Arab Gulf’s modern history. Using a wide range of British, Arab and French archival sources the author examines also the role played by Persia in the struggle, and the extension of the rivalry to East Africa and the Indian Ocean.
The conflict between the expansionist campaigns of Napoleon Bonaparte and Britain’s concern for its Imperial communications to India is here contrasted with legitimate French mercantile aspirations in area regarded by Britain as its exclusive domain. The book brings to light archival materials not previously used by historians and is essential reading for all students of the Arab Gulf’s history.
