نبذة عن كتاب Najat Makki : Luminescence
This publication complemented the solo exhibition of pioneering artist Najat Makki, held on the reopening of the Cultural Foundation in 2019. ‘Najat Makki: Luminescence’ celebrated the artist’s work, career and influence. Makki was one of the original artists who worked at the Cultural Foundation in its early days in the 1980s. As an abstract painter and colourist, she developed her own unique style characterised by vivid hues and the use of fluorescent paint. Having been at the forefront of the Emirati arts scene for more than 40 years, Makki’s distinctive oeuvre has influenced generations of creatives. This book illuminates the life of the artist, her style and work, with sections corresponding to the exhibition galleries: Abstracted Tradition; Al Wasl Club Exhibition of 1987; Meleiha; Fields of Colour; Daily Dairies; Luminescence; and The Archive, which features old photos and newspaper articles. There is also an interview with the artist by Reem Fadda who co-curated the exhibition with Maisa Al Qassimi.
